Rebujito by Night, Reps by Morning: Surviving Feria de Málaga Without Losing Your Routine
Feria de Málaga 2026 runs from the 15th to the 22nd of August, with the fireworks and historical parade kicking things off the night before. For eight days, the city splits neatly in two: the Feria de Día takes over Calle Larios and the historic centre until around 6pm, all flamenco dresses, sherry and impromptu sevillanas, while the Feria de Noche shifts out to the Cortijo de Torres fairground, where the casetas, rides and music run until sunrise. It's genuinely one of the best weeks of the year to live on this coast. It's also, if you're not careful, the week your fitness routine quietly dies and doesn't come back until September.
Why Feria week wrecks routines
It's not really the drinking, or not only the drinking. It's the accumulation: eight days of late nights (or full nights, plenty of ferianos go straight from the fairground to breakfast), sleep pushed back hours at a time, a diet that's suddenly heavy on pescaíto and jamón, and a schedule so disrupted that even people with solid routines the other 357 days of the year find themselves skipping the gym entirely by day three. For locals and expats especially, the cumulative effect across a full week is very different to one big night out, the tiredness compounds.
The good news: Feria already has you moving
Feria de Día alone involves a genuinely surprising amount of walking, up and down Calle Larios, in and out of casetas, standing for hours in the sun. It's not training, but it's not nothing either. The bigger issue isn't total inactivity, it's sleep debt, dehydration and the complete disappearance of any structured movement. Fixing that doesn't require heroics, it requires a few small, deliberate habits layered on top of a week that's otherwise going to be chaotic by design.
A few things that actually help
Match your drinks with water. Cartojal and rebujito both go down easily in the heat, which is exactly the problem, alternating with water does more for how you feel the next day than almost anything else on this list.
Train in the morning, not never. Feria de Día doesn't really get going until midday, which leaves a genuine window first thing, even 20 to 30 minutes on a gym floor beats the zero you'll otherwise manage across an 8-day stretch. It's also usually the quietest time of day at most gyms this time of year, since everyone else is either still asleep or nursing the night before.
Don't try to out-discipline the week. Trying to hit a normal training volume during Feria is a losing game. Two or three short sessions across the week, done consistently, will leave you in a far better place by the 23rd than an ambitious plan abandoned by day two.
Protect at least one full rest night. Eight nights in a row at the fairground catches up with everyone eventually, picking one night to actually sleep does more for how the rest of the week feels than any other single decision.
Where to actually train around it
If your usual gym schedule is built around evenings, Feria week is the moment to flip it. Pumping Hierro in Torremolinos prices its month and year passes specifically for daytime training between 6am and 4pm, a genuinely useful setup if your evenings are spoken for this week and your mornings suddenly aren't. Uppsala Gym in Puerto de la Torre, right in Malaga, keeps things just as simple with day, week and month passes and no contract, so a short-notice session between fairground nights doesn't require any commitment beyond showing up. If you want to compare more options across the city before deciding, Gimnasio Omega and Atlas Sport & Health are also worth a look on ClickPlay.
Enjoy the feria, keep a little structure
Nobody's suggesting you treat Feria de Málaga like a normal training week, that's not the point of it, and trying to would be a bit miserable. But a short morning session, a bit more water than usual, and one proper night's sleep somewhere in the middle of the eight days is the difference between limping into September and actually enjoying the last stretch of summer.
If you want to find a gym near wherever you're staying for Feria, with real opening hours and a clear way to book, not a guess: search ClickPlay before the fair kicks off, so a quick session is one tap away between casetas.
